Bank First acknowledged, and celebrated, women at a staff event featuring our own people and importantly, our partners.

At the same time, we shared our latest Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) results.

To acknowledge International Women’s Day 2025 we invited former Chair Bernie Lloyd, Alfred Health Foundation’s Sandra Kelman, Wirrigirrie Primary School Principal Bec Spink and our own Head of Compliance and Regulatory Affairs Kawal Rhandawa to a panel discussion.

We can complain about it ‘the blokes are keeping me down’ but there’s the sticky floor as well as the glass ceiling. There’s your own sense of who you can be and I think people need to take responsibility for who they are.

My Dad raised us as strong, independent women with the mantra that it doesn’t matter if you’re a girl or a boy. If you want something in your life, don’t think about all of the things in your way. Work hard and you will get what you want.

I feel so privileged to work at Alfred Health surrounded by women. In fact, 70% of our workforce at The Alfred is made up of women, which is incredible.

If we accept that it’s going to take 100 years until we reach gender equality, that’s two generations of young girls who won’t see a world where there is gender equality. That’s not acceptable. We need to do better.

At Bank First, key WGEA highlights include:

  • A reduction in our average total remuneration gender pay gap, down to 4%, which is 20.8% lower than our industry comparison group.

  • Since 2022/23, we have had a 9.7% improvement, driven by more women promoted into senior roles.

  • Improvement to our median total remuneration gender pay gap, decreasing by 2.9% to 19.1% - recognising that there is more work to do.

And on International Women’s Day, we announced that we have reached 50/50 gender parity.

We are proud of our progress to date, and we remain committed to addressing imbalances to further close the gap and create a more equitable workforce. We know where we need to make progress and we will  continue to drive initiatives in these areas.
