Despite the years (or decades) that have passed, we all have that teacher who really made an impact.
World Teachers’ Day, on 25 October, is the perfect time to reflect and recognise those teachers who made a difference in our lives.
We recently spoke to educators at different career stages, to learn about the individuals who shaped them into the teachers they are today or wish to become.
Leanne
School Principal
'I loved being in Mr Marks’ class because every day was interesting and exciting. I think that’s why I enjoy working in a specialist education setting, because we always need to be creative in how we teach'.
Jacob
Teaching Student
'All the teachers I loved were often sporty because of our common interests. The PE teachers were always so encouraging and happy to be there and that’s what I want to bring to my teaching – that joy that I can spread for students'.
Francis
Inclusion Outreach Coach
'I wasn’t very well-behaved at school. The teachers who were able to see me as a capable person and look past my behaviour, they were my favourite teachers. I appreciate the teachers who really see the child'.
As a bank established by teachers, for teachers, supporting the education community is simply part of who we are. Bank First is proud to invest back through scholarships and awards that support teachers to continue learning, while our Teaching Initiatives Program provides grants that reward innovation in education.
And of course, at Bank First, we didn’t hesitate to nominate a favourite teacher!
Michelle
Chief Executive Officer
'A teacher who really made an impact on me was my physics teacher, Mr Webber. He treated all the kids like they were fully formed human beings, and it made a real impact on my desire to learn'.
Damien
Member Lending Concierge Consultant
'I'm a bit biased as a muso, but my music teacher Ms K was my favourite. She helped me with music but also gave me life advice that I've really taken with me to this day'.
Shannon
Senior People Partner
'My primary school teacher Ms Pygram was really young and hip - she was prominent throughout my entire schooling journey and I've seen her as an adult as well. She was awesome'.
We’d love to hear about the teacher who made a special impact on you! Let us know by commenting on Instagram, using #WorldTeachersDay .
